other schools to get solar generator
KUALA LUMPUR: After a primary school in Tuaran, Sabah, was supplied with a solar hybrid generator set for electricity supply, 78 other schools in the state and in Sarawak are going to follow suit.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the ministry has identified schools without electricity and water supply and is now in the process of supplying them with solar hybrid generators.
SRK Tudan in Tuaran, with 53 pupils in the school, was the first to receive the solar hybrid generator. Although costing RM3mil, the generator’s operational cost is said to be minimal.
"If we were to opt for a generator run by diesel, the fuel cost itself can go up to RM1mil a year due to the increasing price,'' he told reporters Tuesday at a press conference in Parliament.
Hishammuddin also said pupils would be given priority in the ministry's decision on financial allocation.
